Before I discovered design, I was 3 years deep into studying nutrition. I was working as a business analyst. I considered myself a very logical, STEM-type person. I would’ve never guessed I’d describe myself as a creative someday. Maybe I’m both, maybe neither. But what ties it all together — what I’ve been learning from day 1 and applying every step of the way — is systems.
I like to take things apart and figure out how they work and that’s as applicable to brand and design as it is to human physiology or the brakes on your car. Every piece contributes in some way, and if you aren’t careful about what elements you’re using or how they’re assembled, it’s just not going to work the way you want it. There’s function in the form and method to the madness. That’s the stuff that really lights me up.
